Just watched the latest Sabrina episode - the Christmas  Special on Netflix. I loved the first series of this show and the Xmas episode is just fun to watch, Season 2 starts April next year.

Still awake, after that siesta, and listening to the music of The Bill Evans Trio.

Tomorrow is the solstice. The shortest day of the year.

Laurie Lee "A Rose For Winter" (Vintage)

In this book, Lee revisits Spain fifteen years later after the civil war there – this time taking his wife with him – and they travel a circular route in the south of the country, from Algeciras through Seville, Ecija, Granada and Castillo before returning to Algeciras. Everywhere they travel they are overwhelmed by the hospitality they are shown and they quickly become part of any family whose hotel/guest house they choose to stay in.

This is a beautifully written evocation of post-civil war Spain and is a book where you want to read every word. Laurie Lee has a knack for immersing himself in the lives of the people he meets, and the places he visits are interpreted through the personalities and experiences of these people.

In Almunecar, in southern Spain, there’s a monument to Laurie Lee. The town honours a man who raised his own monument in print to Spain and the Spanish.

Had a lie-in. Mt prerogative of course. It is a sunny day as I look out of my windows. I am listening to the music of Ennio Morricone, a double CD of scores for Italian film and TV series. Seems quite appropriate for a reflective mood.

What was your favourite holiday(as in holiday, not vacation)?

When was the last time you took a walk in the snow?

When was the last time you went sledging?
