Musical Avenues
Apr. 14th, 2020 11:56 amSo the Classic FM top five is as predictable as ever but then nothing surprises me there as they cater for the background listener and do not cover anything extreme or avant-garde as such. Radio 3 is more adventurous in that regard such as Late Junction and Music Planet.
My current classical top five are -
Giles Swayne - Cry
Edgar Varese - Deserts
Henryk Gorecki - Symphony No.3
Steve Reich - Different Trains
Gyorgi Ligeti - Requiem
Also no adverts on the BBC.
If you are into world music check out Music Planet.

Three From BBC Radio 3 Music Planet
Apr. 14th, 2020 12:48 pmCool world music grooves -
Manu Dibango - Ah! Freak Sans Fric
Asma Hamzaoui & Bnat Timbouktou - Allal
New Moroccan trance music.
Ustad Saami - God Is
Surti music master Ustad. Surti is a vocal tradition that reaches back to the 13th century, and of which he is the last surviving heir. Karachi based Saami sings Surti in multiple languages using a self-devised system that involves a mind-scrambling 49 notes to the octave.
Backed by tanpura, harmonium and tablas, Saami sings with multiple accompanying voices, rising in front of them with electrifying force and terrifying beauty. Precious, melancholy valedictions for a 1000 years of sound.
Enjoy
