Musical Knowledge
Oct. 12th, 2020 12:23 pmThis morning one of my neighbours, Ken at number twenty, asked me for some musical help. He said that I was the only person in the whole close that had a wide musical knowledge and I would probably know what the music was. He said that there was some music in a scene in a DVD he has of some old TV series - it looked definitely a seventies series when I saw it round his flat, and which apparently had not been mentioned in the credits of the show. From the first few bars, I knew exactly what it was with its repeating theme building to a climax. It was Maurice Ravel's "Bolero" made famous by ice skiers Torville and Dean.
Maurice Ravel - Bolero
Boléro is a one-movement orchestral piece by Maurice Ravel (1875--1937). Originally composed as a ballet commissioned by Russian ballerina Ida Rubinstein, the piece, which premiered in 1928, is Ravel's most famous musical composition.
