Resident Parking Permits
Nov. 5th, 2020 05:32 pmWe have been waiting for more than a year for residents' parking to be introduced in our area. A welcome development given the number of motorists who treat our road as a free carpark making it increasingly difficult for residents to park anywhere near their home - me included. The scheme is due to start on 1st December 2020.
Applications for permits must be completed on line and I have just spent an exhausting hour or so doing just that. In order to verify residency one is required to upload two proofs of residency dated within the last three months. One of these proofs must be your motor insurance document. Hmmm. My policy is annual and is valid 28th November 2019 to 28th November 2020. So, I cannot comply with the three month rule for that particular document! There must be many more in the same boat... I am sure there will be many elderly folk completely flummoxed with this online application process.
Telephone help line? Minimum 30 minute wait - minimum. All I could do was upload my current certificate of insurance and hope for the best, having paid the £100 annual fee. I now have to wait for seven working days to hear if my application has been successful. And without a parking permit I will not be allowed to park in my zone, which covers a significant chunk of residential Brighton.
It is all very frustrating!

In Faversham
Nov. 5th, 2020 06:00 pmAfter a chilly morning, it turned out o be one of the sunniest days.
I bussed into the town centre just before midday to get some food items. I was expecting the supermarket to be busy and people buying frantically to hoard. But no. it was fairly quiet and easy to move around.
Anyway, afterward, I checked out which shops stayed open and which were deemed to be not essential for the lockdown. Strangely enough, I did not equate the card shop and pet shop to being essential.
At least my favourite bread shop was open, Crusts, in which I purchased a hot tasty puff pastry sausage roll to eat whilst waiting for the return journey bus.
Back home after unloading my shopping, I took me can of cider and beer outside to the sweet spot in the garden to soak up the midday sun. it was warm enough to wear just a T-shirt.
I took a selfie at the time.

Lunch was fresh salmon steaks on a bed of vegetable rice.

It was washed down with some Montepulciano D'Abruzzo red vino.

Then I must have fallen asleep for an unannounced siesta.
Oh well.

The Last Couple Of Days
Nov. 5th, 2020 06:17 pmAfter my final two visits yesterday I popped into my local Spoons for a snack and some beers. I had the Tennessee beef burger option, washed down with a pint of Wychwood Hobgoblin and an Abbott Ale.

The real ales were still 99p a pint - much less than a can of strong cider or even a Carlsberg Special Brew can!
Tuesday, I met Phil at the local Spoons for a few drinks, which ended four hours later. Ewart joined us as well. A round between three people was just under three quid - normally it would be six in Spoons or over ten quid in a shit n' scream (Shepherd Neam) pub.
Phil took a sneaky pic of me ordering the next round.

He put it on Facebook saying "Fave is always on his phone" - LOL.
It was a great day nonetheless. I slept very well that night after six pints!!!
