Piano Day, an annual worldwide event founded by a group of likeminded people, takes place on the 88th day of the year – in 2021 it’s the 29th March – because of the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated.

Denon

It has been almost two months now but I am enjoying the newish hi-fi from Denon I found on eBay for a great price used. At least indexed CDs where the music is continuous across the indexes now play straight through without that annoying two or one-second gap the old set up insisted upon.





I will invest in a pack of banana plugs to put in place of the bare wire that connects the speakers to the amp. The laptop is connected by way of high quality 3.5mm phono to 2x RCA plugs. There is also a phono socket for a turntable if required.

Oh, and the sound quality is awesome and has 40 Watts of power if needed!

After the recent death of the wonderful Chick Corea, it is sad to hear of another great improviser and drummer Milford Graves.

Milford Graves led the HeArt Quintet at the 20th annual Vision Festival, an ensemble of close collaborators including William Parker, Charles Gayle, and Hugh Glover, who is best known for performing with Graves throughout the ‘70s and documented on the recording Bäbi.

From the Festival program:
Graves is a renaissance man whose original drumming is rooted in African and Caribbean rhythms. His scientific research on the effect of rhythm on the heart translates into music that moves and challenges. The members of Graves’ heart Quartet understand that rhythm is healing when it comes from the body’s rhythms and that music is most powerful when it is in tune with the heart.
