Wednesday Wistfulness
Mar. 10th, 2021 12:22 pmThere was a yellow alert for the weather today with strong winds and rain. Well, we do have gusts up to 45 MPH but not much rain at the moment. However, I was up early to make sure I posted my most recent sales before any bad weather set in. I was at my local convenience store at eight this morning dropping off five packages from eBay payments. No wonder my bro
coming42 commented on my early good morning post.
They were three books and two CDs - the books from my trip to Penge last time.
So far, I have been listening to English composers, Bliss and Nyman in particular. Oh, and the American Morton Feldman.

I suppose you could say that Nyman is the Engl ish equivalent to minimalists Steve Reich and Philip Glass.
My LJ friend
poliphilo mentioned the fact that people seem to be so much nicer after the latest slight release of the lockdown. I hope good manners continue.
BBC Radio 3 composer of the week is Ruth Gipps, and yes, not heard of her before, but she was born in St.Leonards On Sea. Her music is generally 20th century English pastoral and late Romantic. No twelve-tone chromaticism here!! Although I still love my Schoenberg, Berg and Webern - they are best managed in smaller chucks.
Back to the listening. Might tackle some Boulez later.
