Sunday Slouching
Oct. 3rd, 2021 12:43 pmSo far a much better than soaked-filled Saturday. It was a soggy sodden saturnine day that was scurrilously sanitizing my enjoyment of being in Canterbury and yes the alliteration was deliberate.
Today it is blue skies and white fluffy clouds as I write, and hope it stays that way.
Just had lunch which was a delicious roast chicken dinner with tatties, peas, and carrots with stuffing and a portion of a chicken and mushroom slice pastie.
Listening to music as well, from all my recent finds, and those that came in the post
Drinking a fine strong still cider as well. I bought three bottles of it!
Cheers!

Tories That Spend on Themselves
Oct. 3rd, 2021 01:21 pmHere is a snapshot of Priti Patel's recent spending of our money on her behalf on herself and her star.Money that is taken out of our taxes and that is yours and mine.
And these are items just over £500.
All confirmed on the official Home Office website.

The conservative are taking the piss in barrels and laughing merrily as they take the nation into ruins. Klepto-fascists in broad daylight.
Disgusting.

It's The Vinyl Countdown
Oct. 3rd, 2021 01:41 pmOkay, so it's a bit of a pun on Europe's rock stadium tune "Final Countdown". Yeah, but new vinyl is scarce too.
First petrol, then pasta … now record labels are running out of vinyl

Producer and DJ Chris Howell, also known as Luna-C, in his studio.
Hence, the reason I buy old vinyl. Cheaper and easier to get.

The Specials
Oct. 3rd, 2021 09:17 pmWhen I was living in my birth town of Rugby back in the late seventies and early eighties TwoTone was a thing - and based in Coventry just twelve miles away - it was the sound of a new form of ska - that Jamaican sound before reggae. I was well into it and had the two-tone black and white halved shirts and the small thin ties and pork pie hats and so on.
The Specials were the ones for me and early Madness of course.
The Specials - A Message To You Rudy
The Specials - It's Up To You
Now roll on to 2019 - they reformed with three of the original members still alive of course including Terry Hall.
The Specials - Blam Blam Fever
Reviewed in Wire that year as well. And in the current issue of Wire is their brand new album Protest Songs 1924-2012 which is on my want list already. Here is a track from it.
The Specials - Freedom Highway
Written by Pops Staples and performed by the Staples Singers in 1965. The song was written for the Selma to Montgomery march for voting rights.
"Freedom Highway feels very optimistic. Everybody's marching for something. There were so many protests last year and they're still ongoing. People are protesting about very serious issues, people protesting about ridiculous issues. But overall there is that thing in your head that you're on a path or highway, and you're searching for freedom." - Terry Hall
