Told through the voice of a five-year-old girl, who with her somewhat older sister, is taken by their mother on the hippie trail to Marrakesh. The mother puts her own needs and whims before the need of her daughters' for stability and education, even allowing them to eat hashish and to beg. Beautifully and evocatively told, I wonder how much of this semi-autobiography is true and how much permanent damage can be done by a selfish mother who buts her own self-gratification first, there is plenty of time for spiritual growth and voyages of discovery after the most important journey in the whole of one's life, getting your children ready for the world, is finished.

An excellent thought-provoking book.
