Maybe have a peek at GiffGaff's offerings - the £5 and £7.50 bundles are pretty good, and they're purely PAYG, so if you want to wait a few days after one ends before getting another, you can do so, no direct debit surprises. (They're actually part of O2, but with much better rates)
