The morning was wet and windy but the weather was much dryer towards the middle of the day with the sun coming out. We had driven over to Bexhill Hastings and Rye, as I had two covert shops to do whilst GC had the one in Hastings. For hers she picked up a Russell Hobbs Food Steamer, an alarm clock radio, and a couple of paintings.

On my two visits it was a mixed bag of CD's , some books, and a DVD. The DVD is "Jazz On A Summer's Day" and has a CD as well in the package.

As Amazon says - " Jazz On A Summer's Day is widely regarded as being one of the greatest jazz movies ever made. It was filmed over the four days of the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival. The movie not only captured inspired performances from the biggest names in jazz at the time, but also the style and fashions of late Fifties America. As such, it remains a priceless document of times gone by.

It was the only film made by leading stills photographer Bert Sterns, his photographer’s stable images of the performers, the audience and the picturesque setting of Rhode Island.

Here are truly memorable performances from some of the greatest jazz players and singers of the time, including Thelonious Monk, Louis Armstrong, Dinah Washington and Gerry Mulligan. By way of contrast, it also features the then controversial appearance of rock ‘n’ roller Chuck Berry, performing his big hit from that year, "Sweet Little Sixteen”. The film concludes with the peerless gospel singer Mahalia Jackson"

The CD's are a mixed bad because on the whole i could not anything that really enticed me, so i ended up with a Shania Twain CD , one by the Fratellis, one by the Mitchell Brothers, and a decent Bally Sagoo CD "Bollyood Flashback".

The books are -

Andre Loog Oldham "2 Stoned" (Vintage)
Khaled Hosseini "The Kite Runner" (Bloomsbury)

It was a good long day of finding bargains, and having convivial company.

Iconic. I love that film. I wish I had a copy (hint!). Thelonious Monk and Gerry Mulligan figure in my favourite jazz artists of all time. And BTW "The Kite Runner" is a masterpiece. You did well!

I like Bexhill.

Did you have time to take a look at the de la Warre Pavillion?
