Thursday was a really good day. The weather was warm and sunny and i discovered a good few bargains from two mystery shops i did.

I first went over to Faversham to sell some books, and then via Maidstone traveled down to Tenderden to visit a Sue Ryder charity shop. Tenderden is a lovely market town and with camera in hand i took this picture.

I had a pint of ale in a local pub waiting for the bus to take me back up the road to Headcorn to do the other charity shop.

Best bargain of the day was this hardback book for £1.50 and a Niel Gaimon novel which was serialized on BBC Radio 4 a few months ago.

These two were from the Headcorn charity shop, as well as an autobiography by Jools Holland.

I also picked up the complete series of the first season of Spooks, a BBC drama based on our intelligence service , and two series of a US  crime drama called Numbers, and a folk album from 1973 by The Fivepenny Piece "Makin' Tracks" .. This latter purchase was a bit speculative , thinking it might be worth a bit, but alas, it is not, but i have put it on Discogs for around three quid.

The day ended with a drink down the Paper Mill with Phil..

Tomorrow i have three mystery shops which includes a mobile phone shop (no purchase) ,a branch of Pret coffee shop and a branch of Costa Coffee shop. Hence i shall  be cantering to Canterbury, marching to Maidstone and perambulating to Pembury.

I have Seeing Further as a Kindle book. I haven't read it yet, though.

I enjoyed the BBC Radio version of Neverwhere. I think Gaiman is sometimes a bit overhyped, though.

It's so pretty there!
And I haven't read Neverwhere but enjoyed the video made from its bones

I adore "Neverwhere". Absolutely brilliant book. I didn't catch the Radio 4 version, but I do have the DVD of the original TV series from 1996. That's very good - if very cheaply made!

Love your Champions avatar. The Champions was one of my favourites of years gone by.

If you do ever get chance to listen to the Radio 4 version of Neverwhere, I though it was the best of the lot. I remember watching the TV series when it was on originally and thought it was OK, ditto the book, but radio was the perfect medium for the story, especially the fantastic elements. (IMHO of course!)

Yes, I've heard some very good things about the radio serial. I've been wary of it though, because for all the faults of the TV series (good old BBC budgets!), I thought that the cast were perfect. I can't imagine anybody else playing those roles, particularly the Marquis and Croup and Vandemar. I may come to it eventually though. It's such a great story.

I have listened to it already some months back, and that is why i bought the book (for comparison).

Ohh, lovely pictures - and interesting purchases. Sorry the last one didn't work out - hope it sells well, though.

*HUGS*

Looks like a lovely little town.

What are the squiggly white lines on the road for?
Hugs, Jon

The squiggly white lines means that no cars should not park near to the crossing for pedestrians.

Neverwhere was the first Gaiman I read, and it's still one of my favorites. I really like the cover on that edition.

What are "mystery shops"? I'm confused.

It is a covert shop to test things like staff interaction with customers (i,e friendly or rude etc) and to test that items are rung up correctly, and that a receipt is given, and in the case of charity shops that volunteers do not pocket the money either by till staying open, rung up incorrect and so on. You need good observational skills and a good memory to jot down your findings on a sheet once you have left the premises and ten do a report online.

Our county of Kent has such lovely places. Today for example, i am going to the cathedral city of Canterbury ,with narrow lanes and weird looking places.

"Mystery shops" sound like a great way to spend a day!! My DD and I love to do charity shops for clothes! She has two fast-growing boys and not a lot of cash, so picking up a pair of jeans for $3 and a shirt for $2 makes the budget stretch a little further!!

I love the pictures! They remind me of many of the small towns on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Even my own little town of Dedham, Mass. has some areas like that, with houses from the 1700's and 1800's!
