I don't think I had heard it was coming back. Although that doesn't surprise me. Hollywood only does remakes and spinoffs lately. Rarely do you get anything new.

I never did watch Heros, but I almost bought the dvds last Christmas or two when I saw them in a store for really cheap. :p

I'm not at all one for superheroes, but I was quite engaged by Heroes, eventually. ^_^ Still haven't seen the fourth season, though - I prefer watching TV with friends, rather than by myself, and those opportunrities don't crop up often. (But then, I suppose I am a relatively reclusive bunny)

I wasn't impressed by the first iteration: It had too many of the conventions of superhero comics for realism, including realistic science fiction (the whole treatment of where powers came from was hardly distinguishable from the Marvel comics "mutant" trope), but at the same time it didn't offer the key things that make the comics genre appealing—in particular, despite its title, pretty much none of the characters were "heroes," not in that they lacked costumes and code names, but in that they didn't embody any moral concepts, not even ambiguous ones like Batman's vengeance or the Hulk's dualism. There wasn't really much feeling of agency at all. I think I would have to sum it up as having the faults of naturalism without the virtues of realism.

I already wasn't enthused, but the idea of old characters and that particular old caracter coming back has convinced me not to watch. A lot of my dislike for the original series was for its choice of who counted as a "main character" and who was just cannon fodder and set-dressing, and if he's a highpoint of the publicity it sounds like it won't change.

I adored the first season of Heroes, but by about the first few episodes of season 3, I was losing interest. Loved Hiro's character, especially. Well, he and Sylar.
