I took a load of pics with the Panasonc Lumix camera whilst i was in Folkstone For brevity i have put them all under the cut.

P1000181

The area known as Cheriton. Four charity shops on just one side of the road.

P1000183

The Guildhall pub where i had a pint OF Harvey's Sussex Ale.

P1000184
Another pretty pub but at the time wasn't open.

P1000185
Now what time was it? Plenty of time for another beer somewhere.

P1000186
I walked through the church back into the shopping area via the Guildhall and The British Lion pubs, and ended up at another Wetherspoons, The Samuel Peto.

P1000187

P1000188
I did have a pint of beer at this pub, The Pullman, before the Samuel Peto. It was a Gadds Festival ale.

P1000189

And finally, the Samuel Peto. This is such an impressive looking pub that it deserves its own post which will follow.

No wonder i got distracted.

That is impressive! I wonder what it was before it was a pub. Looks Georgian. Possibly a town house.

You live in a beautiful place with plenty of history. I like the look of the British Lion a lot. Very interesting Guild Hall pub. I guess it was originally a guildhall. How very cool that it has been preserved! And beer o'clock on a castle wall, lol :) Here, the other day, my tummy was telling me that it was lunch time but the clock said only 10 o'clock. Then I realised that the clock had stopped! The Samuel Peto Freehouse looks very Roman from the outside. Do you know the origin of the name Peto? It sounds Italian to me.

What was the flag in front of the Samuel Peto?

Such lovely looking streets. :)
Did the Samuel Peto use to be a bank or some such establishment?
Hugs, Jon

I've visited Folkestone, years ago. I remember it as a charming town, with beautiful views of the Channel. I hope it's as prosperous as it looks in your photos.

The Samuel Peto has the most impressive façade I've ever seen for a pub.
