Date: 2014-08-28 11:04 am (UTC)His musical career had a late burst of energy; he had a new album out (American Son), was playing festivals and doing some support for Robert Plant, and had a three-city USA tour in the works. We were scheming to hang out for a day -- visiting old military airfields -- when he visited Austin, Texas, on that tour. His last e-mail to me said the plans were on hold while he dealt with a matter of health.
