Brighton and Hove Visits
Aug. 29th, 2014 10:45 pmWell that was a strange day weather wise. Started nice and sunny, then extremely windy, a quick burst of showers ,, back to warm sunshine, then windier and cooler as the day drew to a close.
I managed to complete all the visits except for Lewes which i shall do tomorrow now on my journey back to Kent.
In Hove i popped into Fine Records but Julian was not around. However at the Martletts charity shop picked up six blues CD's for fifty pence each.

Not far from the Marletts chazzer there is an Oxfam charity shop and they had a wonderful Dr.Who window display that looked so inviting.
The CD's are -
Buddy Guy - A Man And The Blues (Vanguard)
The Port Of Harlem Jazzmen - Blue Note Presents.. (Blue Note)
Howlin' Wolf - Moanin' And Howlin' (Chess)
Champion Jack Dupree - New Orleans Barrelhouse Boogie (Columbia Legacy)
Blind Willie McTell - 1927-1935 (Yazoo)
Jesse Fuller - Jesse Fullers Favorites (Prestige)
These were an unexpected find as some of them are worth at least a fiver each or more on Discogs.
Some of the visits today took longer than expected and i had to phone my brother to check the location of one of them but when he mentioned the wine merchant shop i knew roughly where it was. I usually know my directions by names of pubs, off licencees or wine merchants. By the time i completed the last Sonos speaker system visit it was too late to trek to Lewes, so i had a thoroughly deserved pint at the Evening Star.

It looks like the whole of Surrey Street where the pub is is being pedestrianized. I had to take this picture of the overhanging branch near the pub.
So now i am listening to some top notch blues grooves on a pair of superb, i repeat absolutely superb Grado headphones.

Date: 2014-08-30 08:43 am (UTC)That sounds like a good collection of CDs you got there!
And that's a worry that you know your directions by names of pubs, off licencees or wine merchants, lol :)
Did that tree not like the wind much?

Date: 2014-08-31 01:03 am (UTC)Never listened to any Grado, as yet, but I enjoy my Sennheisers. Originally - about five years ago - a pair of PX200II-i, which I was quite comfortable with, until I left them on the train one day. =:P (Not handed in to Lost & Found, sadly, despite being at the terminus, Paddington) After a good bit of research, I chose to step up a tiny bit, with their HD25-1 II, which seem to review deservedly well, despite being at the relatively low end of things. In any event, they're a delight to listen with, and are gratifyingly effective in the face of train or bus ambient noise, for listening to a film or music video comfortably.
