The Robin Hood epsiode  of Doctor Who had to re-edited in light of recent events with beheadings from the Islamic State terrorists as explained here in the Radio Times  -

http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2014-09-04/bbc-makes-edit-to-doctor-who-robot-of-sherwood-out-of-respect-after-two-journalists-are-killed

and here on the Dr.Who Worldwide website -

http://doctorwhoworldwide.com/2014/09/06/details-of-the-cut-beheading-scene-during-robot-of-sherwood/

There has been no word on whether these scenes will be restored in future DVD/BluRay releases or future repeat broadcasts. I hope it will as it clears up any cofusion about the Sheriff as being part man and part robot.

As it was, it was a good episode with lots of light humour in it.

I know some Whovians do not like Clara but for me she is wonderful, and is a  perfect foil to the Doctor.

So i pose a question, which female is your favourite Who companion?

I'm currently watching it. Good episode!!!

Interesting articles. I hope the scenes are restored for the DVD.

I'm just excited that I recognized the location as being Caerphilly Castle (because I've been there!!).

As for my favorite companion? Donna all the way..

Favourite female companion is Barbara. Nobody else even comes close.

Agreed. And Ian. The Doctor is at his best with a male/female pair I think - Amy and Rory were great together too. And Turlough and Ace for different reasons.

Yes. I don't know why a male/female combination should make a difference, but somehow it does. For me, companions don't come better than Ian and Barbara. Jack and Rose were great too. It still rankles that we were cheated out of a full season with them. And yes, Turlough. With the exception of Peri, who I never warmed to, the Fifth Doctor had a good group of companions all round. The writers didn't always know what to do with them, but that bit of variety in the TARDIS was a strength. I'm so bored with the single female companion arrangement!

Hmmph. Why does it have to be female? I grew up with Jamie and Zoe. Having said that, I'll go with Sarah Jane Smith over all, with Martha my favorite of the New Who. I like River Song, but I don't think of her as a companion (and things got a little soap opera toward the end). Oh, I also really enjoyed Rory. The beginning of "A Good Man Goes to War" is one of my favorites.

Mia culpa. It's a guy thing. Rory was great BTW. Sarah Jane Smith is an all time fave too. Loved her own series despite being aimed at the kids.

My favorite is Sarah Jane Smith, by a light year. After that, Amy Pond. I really liked Liz Shaw, too.

I haven't cared for Clara up till now, so I'm surprising myself by seeing definite "Sarah Jane" potential in her in this season.

I was thinking about that as well.

I saw that potential too...although I am not a fan of the slapping.

Donna Noble. I stopped watching Doctor Who when she was written off the show because I empathized with her character and the end to her story was heartbreaking.

Before Clara, my favorite was Amy Pond with Donna Noble a close second. I'm really enjoying the way Clara and the Doctor banter and bicker. But Clara's past and origins are still a bit too mysterious for me to accept her like I did Amy... but time will tell.

Your news posts explain why tonight's episode seemed a bit disjointed. Still, we enjoyed it thoroughly with lots of laughs. Next week looks a bit scarier. Might record that one and watch it first thing in the morning rather than last thing at night. :-)

I hadn't heard there was a connection to that news story. So sad. :o

I think I would lean towards Harriet Jones and Martha Jones. :)

Harriet Jones was not a companion (that is, travel with the Doctor) though.

I also prefer the situation where the Doctor has two or more companions. Barbara and Ian are faves as a pair, but as singletons I like Sarah Jane and Ace.

From the reboot - River, if she counts, and Amy and Rory as a pair.

I'm afraid that I'm one of those people who is still looking for Clara's personality (though the household gave up on last night's - too much bloody quoting in the dialogue - watched a repeat of Lewis instead.

I liked the episode - I wouldn't want them all to be that light in tone, but it works once in a while. (I hope there's a really dark and scary one next week to balance it, though.) I'm looking forward to finding out what my mum, who is, like Clara, a big Robin Hood fan, made of it.

I didn't like Clara when she was a mysterious all-powerful cipher who got to save all the Doctors and be super special, but I am enjoying her set against Capaldi.

My favourite is Ace, because she was the companion for most of my childhood (Mel was the first I saw, but let's not go there). I'm also fond of Jo Grant, but perhaps more as part of the whole UNIT family than on her own merits.

This. I would have been happy to see Matt Smith's Clara leave, but she's much more interesting and sympathetic now she's been thrown off balance.

I have to watch the episode again to get a better idea of my opinion, I think I was too tired to properly pay attention last night, but I remember smiling and laughing so it can't have been bad :)

In order: Donna/Martha depending on the day, Clara, River, Amy (to me she goes hand in hand with Rory) and then Rose.

Karen Gillan as Amy Pond for me. And I reckon Emma Watson would make a terrific companion in a future series...

Oh yes, Emma Watson would be a good choice.

Sarah Jane, Tegan, Donna. I enjoyed Amy and Rory together (and River!) too, and I'm enjoying Clara with Twelve.

There is a Tegan at the Office. I always ask her when was the last time she traveled with the Doctor. Our little joke together.

My fave females are Leela, Ace and Barbara.

I do like Clara but I think the writers have done her a disservice she could be done better a lot of the time. I liked her restaurant scene with the Dr in 'Deep Breath' and at the start of 'Robot of S' so I would like to see her as a closer companion to Twelve. Liked Dr and Marion too.

Ace, Romana the second, Liz Shaw, Nyssa. And Turlough and Jack for balance. We can't count the Brig, can we?

Rose. I do like The Impossible Girl, she's pretty awesome, and Leela was fun. But I'm very frustrated with Matt Smith as I didn't like him as an actor as The Doctor, but I think he had the best scripts of the restart of the series. Never cared much for Amy & Rory, but the stories outweighed my dislike. Capaldi, so far, is fine, I'll wait until the season over before opining about the quality of writing.

Donna, and that's as an old! and new!Who fan. Jay likes Ace best; not sure about Mouse. Also Zoe, if we're going by females - she's a fantastic mathematician and martial arts expert: what's not to like?

Love Rory and Jamie as male companions.

Donna by far - her story arc was both empowering and heartbreaking.
As for the male companions, I thought Rory was great and Turlough also deserved a better crack than he eventually got.

Leela. She's the first one I really remember, and she was kick-ass long before 'kick-ass' had even been invented!

I hope they put it back in...will make sense of certain aspects of the episode...

I love Clara. I love her more now that we know more ABOUT her and realize she is just as flawed as anyone else.
