I had a thought about which Dr. Who i grew up with most and it was actually John Pertwee's tenure with the classic car Bessie whilst the Doctor was earthbound. This was followed by Tom Baker whom i enjoyed to a certain degree but not as much as the former.

So LJ friends whom is your favourite Dr. Who from the past or more recently?

You're up late! My Doctor was Davison, technically, but I had a lot more books about Hartnell, particularly the Ian and Barbara era. Thanks to the DVDs, I've been able to explore that era properly, and in some ways it's my favourite. I'm also very fond of the Pertwee era.

On the other hand... all those years when the show was off the air, the encumbent Doctor was McGann. There were the Eighth Doctor books from the BBC, there were his comic strips in Doctor Who Magazine (and briefly in the Radio Times), and there were the audio adventures from Big Finish. Consequently, that Doctor is very much a favourite. I really don't think that I could choose one above all the others.

I always liked Peter Davidson's version of the doctor.
But, I did like his predecessors too.
I've liked all of the new ones, but in different ways.

Agreed, there is none i really do not like. they all bring their different takes on the Doctor and i guess anybody who has lived as long as he has will be a complex multifaceted person.

5 is mine, too. Almost everybody in the US is 3, 4, or 5, at least pre-Eccleston. But my upstairs neighbor is 7 -- and my wife may be the only 6 in existence.

The only time we ever got to see Dr. Who when I was a kid was when we went to visit my Nana in New England, three days drive from our home. That was during Tom Baker's run. He's still the only one I've ever seen. I loved him. My Nana had salt and pepper shakers that were clear glass, wide on the bottom and narrow on the top like Daleks. After she passed on and we cleaned out her house, I kept the shakers as a reminder of happy memories of visiting her and watching Dr. Who.

I've not seen the older ones, but of what I have seen, I like Number 9 best. The first Doctor of the reboot. He just seemed passionate and alive and angry and full of everything I would think a 900+ year old person would be.

9 was my fave.

My first Dr. Who was Christopher Eggelston. My favorite, in my limited experience, is David Tennant and then Matt Smith. I'm not fond of the new doctor, but love Clara:)

I am also a Clara fan, and actually, my current wallpaper on my PC is of her!

Like so many in the US, Tom Baker was my first Doctor and still my favorite. Second place is an arm-wrestle between Patrick Troughton and Matt Smith.

Tom Baker, no question. You always remember your first doctor. But the best qualities of the new doctors relate back to him. Smart and funny, capable and caring. And a perfectly self-aware arrogance.

Eccleston is my favorite of the "new" doctors.

Have never seen a Troughton, McCoy or Capaldi episode.

It's Mr Pertwee, whom I fell for after reading the Target novels, ages before I actually saw any Who on TV (I was a strange child who read a lot of random stuff).

The first Doctor I saw on telly was Colin Baker, but it's Sylvester McCoy I think of as the Doctor of my childhood, and he's my second favourite.

Troughton, without a doubt, followed by Matt Smith and Tom Baker...

For me it would probably still be Peter Davison. It was while he played the 5th Doctor that I started watching the show properly, so I guess he was my introduction into the show. Also, that meant his was the first regeneration I saw, and that was a very strong memory. :)

Definitely David Tennant.

Tom Baker is mine simply by virtue of being the first Dr Who I saw. But I think if I saw John Pertwee first he would be my all time favourite, too. I also really liked Peter Davidson, but I think that's because I saw him in All Creatures Great and Small first :)

Pertwee was always my favorite Doctor followed by Tom Baker. I must confess, I harbor a wish that his son, Sean, might someday take over the role.

They say you imprint on your first Doctor. For me, that was David Tennant and then Chris Eccleston. I've just started watching John Pertwee's series and it's fun.

Hummm ... I wonder who my favorite Doctor was...

I've always hear that the Doctor who on when you first watched the show usually becomes your favorite one. That's true form me.

I knew of Dr. Who from prior Drs, but I didn't start watching and becoming a fan until Christopher Eccleston. Not really sure who to describe why I like him so much. He was oddly good looking. He was quirky.
Hugs, Jon

May I say I LOVE that userpic!

I only started watching with new Who, but have gone back and watched a lot of classic Who...and I love it all...

And do I *have* to have *A DOCTOR*??? Because I really don't like any of them more than others.

I'm weird like that.
