Last night i watched the DVD of Withnail & I, which is a darkly hedonistic funny comedy about two out of work thespians , who find that they have to get out of London (1969) to the countryside to the bleak wind and rain swept Welsh countryside. If you not seen it then i will not mention what happens, but simply just recommend it. The film came out in 1986 and i was watching the extended 1999 DVD version. It launced the careers of Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann.

Here is a clip, a taster, from it -

and the

and towards the end the famous Camberwell Carrot scene -

Enjoy.

I love this movie.

Some people have apparently tried to make a drinking game of matching the characters drink for drink throughout the movie. Including the shot of lighter fluid. I'm pretty sure that'd kill most people.

Even without the lighter fluid, according to someone on TVTropes Withnail drinks 58 units of alcohol during the film, which is just under twice the usual lethal dose for an adult male.

One of my favorite films! I just showed it to my nephew (he's 19) for the first time a few weeks ago. Sadly, he wasn't as excited about it as I was at his age. This is one of my favorites and if a friend hasn't seen it yet, I set up a movie night with it.
