An up and down day of high winds, sunshine and squally showers, and the occasional dark satanic clouds. I ventured forth to Ashford to do a pub food and drink visit, and then onward to Tenterden to do a charity shop visit. When i arrived in Tenterden , a sharp shower burst open, so i had to rush to get some cover in a disused phone box. It quickly blew over and i walked down to my charity shop, and found these books, all paperbacks, for a fiver.

The Charles Dickens biography i already have in hardback, so this paperback will be my reading copy.

Afterwards, U took some pics and then gravitated to a local pub to have a pint of beer before catching the bus back.

Heading towards the pub.

The pub is called The Woolpack.

Inside the pub where i had a pint of Old Dairy Gold Top.

On the bus back from Tenterden i just happened to get the wrong bus. It was the school run period and within minutes on the outskirts of the town it diverted into a college and a sororial cabal of young ladies got on-board with garrulous giggling girltalk all the way to Ashford. Apart from being noisy they were well behaved unlike some of the boys on the bus.

A very enjoyable day.

I like the idea of the dark satanic clouds, although I didn't see any in the photos....

I prefer fluffy clouds of white but i take your point. Next time if i see black portentous clouds i shall snap away.

Ooo! I love Measure For Measure. It was one of the first I saw performed by the RSC and it was so funny - yet disturbing that the issues in it are still with us.

Delightful!

I'm sure the scenery you live in is pretty old stuff for you, but I find the photos of random English streets like the ones you posted here wonderful - such a different feel and flavor to where I live.

Never been to the UK - heck, never been off the North American continent - but for one brief 5-day foray to La Maddalena, Italy when my ex husband was in the Navy. I want so badly to do some travelling before I get too old to either appreciate it or to do it period -! But plane tickets and hotels are expensive and my income is very small.

Sigh. Perhaps someday....

Oh, very nice rain-washed streets! A lovely town.

I was wondering, how much does it cost to use a phone box now? That's if you have any left. Here I have heard that it has gone up to $2. It used to be 50c last time I heard.

Very nice inside the pub, too. I like the name Woolpack. It reminds me of wool bales we had here when I was a kid, which I think might be the same thing?

Funny thing, catching the wrong bus. You were like a school kid again :)

Sounds like a waterlogged kind of day. :p

I love that picture with the church steeple in the background. :)

I love your photos! As another friend said, it's interesting to see the architecture of old English villages/towns. The pub seems to have picked up furniture bits from yard sales!! No two items match!!
