Most of the morning , well roughly three hours of it, has been spent sorting out my cousin's laptop, a Toshiba one running Windows 7. He had a huge problem, not of virus infection, but lack of memory on the hard drive. specifically, all his backups have been loaded on to the data partition on the hard drive, plus some unwanted programs that ask for payment for them , whilst i know that there are decent similar utilities that are freeware and just as good.

Anyway, after using CCleaner, degfragged the hard drive, and such like, deleting unwanted programs, i have made his laptop perform better, and a bit faster.

His 128 GB hard drive has loads more space on it as well. Think i deserve a free pint for this work, and thank goodness i have no visits today until towards the middle of the week when i bus down to Sussex for my DJ gig.

Brownie points for me.

Pretty good easy fix, maybe an upgrade of OS or just a new laptop could suffice in the future. Windows 10 is coming soon with a free update for windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users.......

Enjoy the pint!!

Ha, he cannot afford to upgrade or get a new laptop on his wages and i recently just had a new laptop myself. Quite happy with old tech in general but you know mostly all the teething problems have been sorted out.

Yes , he gave me two cans of beer.

Hmm. Maybe I should see if that's what the problem is with *my* Toshiba running 7. It's gotten slower than hell.

I checked the partitions between data and windows and the data was in the red with loads of backup files dating back to 2010. So i deleted the rest leaving the last one on there, used CCleaner, and defragged the drive and now it is way way better.

I definitely recommend running CCleaner (once to twice within a month - if not more depending on use). Run a check on your OS/C Drive in Defrag area, defragging can take a while, so be patient with the first run through. Depending on your use of the machine (and how much space you eat up/move regularly) depends on how often you have to do this. Checking your disk for defragging will often tell you if this needs to be done at all. Mine only needs to be defragged once every three months - and I use the HELL out of my machine, lol!

A few extra memory chips might help as well, to boost storage to 256 or even 512 GB and they are not too expensive. Mind you, you need to know what you are doing to install them, provided that there are slots available.

Well i actually did suggest an external hard drive, and when i looked at the partitions he does have enough RAM memory to multitask, so it is a simple matter of disc space. As i have already freed up 68 GB of storage already he will be fine for a good while.

Does Spot know how to multitask?!

Best way to cure/fix any PC/lappies problem!! I recommend (based on his usage/tendency to save/store things) he should use CCleaner once every one - three weeks. Defrag should be run every two to six months (at the least - computers back in the day? It was once a week to once a month). Glad his lappie is behaving better!!

MAJOR brownie points!

*HUGS*
