Trolls are Cowards

Nobody should suffer from hateful horrible internet trolls to the extent that they have to lock up their site and worry, as per the case with rubyelf. It has knocked out her energy and confidence and i do hope that she can recover from this untoward vitriolic attack. Take away their power and they become an insect you stamp out with your feet.

I went to her blog and saw that she'd mentioned the trolls were from the Manosphere. I've read some blogs from those people and they are utterly, completely, totally off their trolley. There was one about how to be attractive to men and you're supposed to like taking it up the arse but not ever swear, or be intelligent or have accomplishments. They are completely barmy.

I've been on the Internet and running sites since 1988. I am SO used to Trolls. I ignore, ban, constantly implement newer anti-troll code, and just get on with it.

These fuckers are so brave! Anonymously brave, that is. Or at a safe distance brave. I have no tolerance or respect for them. :/

You have to grow a thick skin or you'll be running for the hills or fighting constantly, that's what I tell people. I always respond evenly and calmly, never impulsively or emotionally, and a lot of times people will apologize for their initial comments, begging off for emotionalism or some other dramatic reason. Some will continue baiting and then I'll ban them or request moderation or something more. I learned long ago that when you engage a troll on their level you'll always ultimately lose in some way or another.

I agree. Don't give them the power to hurt you. But protect yourself when you need to. Making her journal Friend's Only is a good idea, but she shouldn't stop writing!
