I have recently picked up an excellent history of Surealism and Dada book, and one of the main protagonists is Max ernst. Here is a documentray in two parts about him and his realtion to Surrealism.

Now that you brought up art, maybe you can answer this question, what style was Van Gogh considered? I was helping somebody with trivia and they wanted to know about artists and surrealism. I think it was who wasn't a surrealist painter. I thought Van Gogh was. So, what kind of painter was Van Gogh?

Van Gogh was one of the most important post impressionists. This movement lead towards surrealism.
