Film scores tend to be ignored but the do play an important role in a movie. Many classical composers of the 20th century and this century have been wonderful film score writers, and it is an art that has been ignored for far too long. Not all of these composers are classical composers , as lalo Schifrin certainly is not, but these are my most influential ones on me.

So here are some of mu=y favourite film scores -

Arthur Bliss - The Shane Of Things To Come (1936)

Proving that he can write top notch film scores as well as classical compositions.

Bernard Hermann - North By Northwest (1959)

Lalo Scifrin - Bullitt (A Soundtrack Suite) (1968)

Next up, a classical composer-

William Walton -  Richard III (Prelude) (1955)

And finally in this selection -

Gato Barbieri - Last Tango In Paris Suite (1972)

Such a cool soundtrack too.

Of course, not forgetting wonderful scores by Ennio Morricone, John Barry, Eric Korngold, and many more. May have to a second selection sometime.

The movies would be quite dull without their scores. :o

I love Ennio Morricone's work. The soundtrack to Days of Heaven, one of my favorite movies, is also one of my favorite soundtracks. It's mostly his, with some Saint Saens thrown in.

nice choices

I particularly like John Barry's score for 'Out of Africa' - one of my favourite films, and 'Dances With Wolves' of course.
