I had an interesting experience when I visited Canterbury once. When I visited ley points like Stone Henge and Glastonbury Tor I always felt I could sense something from them, but I wasn't sure whether it was psychological because I had the expectation. When I visited Canterbury, though, I expected to feel it from the cathedral, but as we approached the town I felt nothing from the direction of the cathedral and was convinced I sensed something from directly ahead of us instead. When we reached the town we discovered there was a much older monument there in the centre. That, presumably, is where the ley point actually is.

Looking forward to seeing your photos of the city :)

St Martin's church by any chance?

It's way older than the cathedral (6th century) and built on top of a pagan grove!

I'm not sure. Possibly, but I was just looking at pictures and they're not how I remember it. I thought I remembered a tall, tor like structure in the middle of the high street. Having said that, It was twenty years ago, so my recollection could be faulty. Whatever it was, it predated the cathedral by centuries. 6th century sounds about right.

Maybe this?

It's the remains of St George's church where the playwright Christopher Marlowe was baptised and got flattened, apart from the tower, during the blitz in WW2.

St George seems to be the one I remember, but apparently not as old I thought it was, though I gather it was built on top of something older. That seemed to be where I was feeling something, though, in the centre of the town.

It's thought there was a Saxon church on the site, but there's no physical evidence and there's also a connection to Theodore of Tarsus, who eventually became archbishop, which pushes it back a long way.

Fwiw, the Roman town name 'Durovernum' means 'stronghold by the alder grove' so make of that what you will! :o)

The remains of St Mary Magdalen (much the older of the two) on the next street over.

Do things always get busy after Winter is over? Or are things just extra busy at the moment?
Hugs, Jon
