My DJ mate Ally posted this on FB - kinda appropriate really - ladies, you been warned!

Trouble is , with the London Metro paper they think all jazz is smooth. They need to listen to some Ornette Coleman or late Coltrane to take that "smooth jazz" back.

It's funny really, as i am listening to the seducer himself - Barry White.

Ha ha!

This is bad science. The result could also mean that only jazz fans are dumb enough to answer questions about their faithfulness. It could also mean that not many fans of, e.g., baroque could be reached because they were too busy getting laid.

It's a typical fake "survey" done solely to get a company's name in the papers. There are companies that specialise in this and offer to get exactly the results you want.

Not to mention: the Metro is an offshoot of the Flail, so it's unlikely to be much of a research document, other than sociological. =:)

I've seen a couple online quizzes which equate jazz with "smooth" or "relaxing".

This baffles me, because my grandfather was a huge jazz fan -- enough that he got to be a friend of Louis Armstrong -- and I don't remember him listening to ANY relaxing stuff. Bebop, experimental, swing, dixieland, New Orleans, all that, sure, but relaxing? I mean, he probably had SOME, but I swear that some people who write online quizzes think that Kenny G is jazz, and nothing else is.

Absolutely. These people who devised the quiz probably listen to nothing else but Kenny G shit.
