Firsr off a few bargains at the now abyssmal Brighton record fair. Why abyssmal - simply because the really good bargains are less and less and less stands are avaialable to peruse.
Anyway less of the bitching and onto the goodies -

#934 "The Watersons - Mighty River of Songs" (Topic) 4cd box set with one DVD of a huge rerrospective look at this great folk family for a mere £20. A steal of a price infact.

#935 "Ennio Morricone - Bande original du film Mon Nom Est Personne" (WEA France) LP from 1973 which contains the music most heard on the Beeb's "Nighty Night" comedy theme tune and a soundtrack from a film i have not heard of before. Only £4 for this gem.

#936 "Excepter - Throne" (Load Records CD) from this year of release an elegant noisy electronic improv work-out fro only £2.

#937 "Vetiver - Between" (DiCristina Stair Builders CD EP) which is Devendre Banhart's backing band in essence, again for only £2, and another recent release.

#938 "Tarentel - Big Black Square / Paper White" (Temporary Residence CD 2005) which Wire called "a mesmerising series of noise improvisations" and "an enigmatic, sprawling caterwall ... the group always make the leap into the unknown and brave the consequences", and only £2.

#939 "Ana Da Silva - The Lighthouse" (Chicks On Speed CD 2004) - another fine electro-folk album for a silly £2 price.

and finally
#940 "Max Richter - Memory House" (Late Junction CD 2002 ) for only £2.50. I've heard the name before but don't know the artist so this is a bit of a wild stab in the dark. Only £2.50 though.

Perhaps the best record fair day for a very long while. Howevr, Snoopers Paradise is still ace for great finds.

Afterwards i looked at what David Books had outside on their table in the North Laines and picked up 4 Pocket Essentials books for £1 each - there wre "Robert Crumb" , "German Expressionism", "Post Modernism" and "Animation".

I might pop to the cinema a little later to see the Wallace and Gromit film that has recently beenreleased.

Are those numbers for real, i.e. this year's acquisitions ? That's a lot, even by my standards !

No matey. They are the number of records i have acquired in the last 2 years since acquring my home PC but its about 400 a year on average and since i moved to the south coast in 1990. Mind you i first was into soul and jazz fusion and disco around that early period and sold most of them again as i discovered Wire Mag in 1991 and went into othre areas such as improv and all the weird shit i dig. In total i have 3000 albums mostly Cd,some albums and singles and a few DVD's. However unlike you i have a wife and so can;'t afford to buy as much per year and hence have a budget i try to stick with. Each year i have a bit of a pruning or culling as well when space gets a problem ,which is usually around January so watch this space.
