O Superman - Laurie Anderson - as displayed in the MOMA, New York

"O Superman (For Massenet)" is a 1981 song by experimental performance artist and musician Laurie Anderson. Part of the larger work United States, "O Superman," a half-sung, half-spoken, almost minimalist piece unexpectedly rose to #2 on the UK Singles Charts in 1981[2]. Prior to the success of this song, Anderson was little known outside the art world."

Wow!
What an amazing song!

I wonder why she wasn't recognized for her use of synthesizers, or why she wasn't known here in the U.S...

My guess is that while the UK singles charts ran purely on record sales, US singles charts included an element of radio airplay, and so were more proof against avant-garde recordings not intended to be pop hits achieving freak popular success.

Oo, very cool move. I wonder if I might finally be able to attend some of the events this year? We shall see. ^_^

I should probably also pick up a copy of JMJ's new "Time Machine part 1", where she features as one of the many collaborators, along with the likes of Little Boots, Massive Attack, Pete Townshend, and John Carpenter. (Trailer here)

I love O Superman. I was very surprised at the time when it reached number 2 in the charts! It should be an interesting festival!

I saw her in concert twice in Phoenix, probably back in the '90s. She's an excellent artist, I wish I could see the festival.

That's fantastic. I was introduced to Laurie Anderson's work by my sweetie Lisa, who had a professor in her art program who played her a lot during workshops. She's become one of my favorite artists. I hope I have the chance to see her in person some day.
