As
cmcmck pointed out it is the 60th anniversary of the death of Gerald fizi, a composer that IMHO should be better known. Here is his wonderful Eclogue - this music seems so poignant and melancholic.
Gerald Finzi - Eclogue for Piano and Strings
Peter Donohoe, Piano
Northern Sinfonia, Howard Griffiths, conductor
Plus an added bonus -
Here are three of Gerald Finzi's Five Bagatelles, composed originally for clarinet and piano duo - arranged here by Lawrence Ashmore.
"Deep roots are not reached by the frost" - JRR Tolkien.
Gerald Finzi - Five Bagatelles - Op.23
Northern Sinfonia
Conducted by Howard Griffiths
Clarinettist: Robert Plane
The three inner bagatelles are represented, in the following order:
II Romance
III Carol 4:18
IV Forlana 6:15
I wonder if Julian at Fine Records in Hove is listening to this.
