I was doing a survey on the trains between Gatwick and Reading yesterday and had some time to kill in Reading. Found a second hand bookshop and bought "British Folk Tales And Legends A Sampler" by Katherine Briggs (Paladin paperback reprinted 1980) for £2. It is a superb collection of tales split into sections such as fables, fairy tales, nursery tales, novelle, black dogs, bogies, devils, dragons, ghosts, fairies, giants, supernatural, local legends, saints and witches.A book to dip in to which i did on the last journey when i finished my work. I took the fast First Great Western to Paddington and walked down to Notting Hill to look for record goodies.

Only one item i found interesting that day . Dredd Foole "In Quest of Tense" (Iretones 1994 CDR) home made free folk jams in lovely home-made cardboard sleeve with photo of Dan Ireton on the inside and a stuck-on piece of abstract art on the front. An amazing find for the slightly higher price of £10.Most of these CDR's from the acid-folk brigade are always in limited quantities so to find one of these in a UK shop is a delight. Shades of Pelt,Sunburned,Scorces and Jandek - esp. Jandek in the weird vocals.

I decided not to stay too long as i needed to get back to Brighton earlyish and as i arrived home it just turned to dusk.

I am looking forward to the Faust event at the Old Market as i missed them last time they visited Brighton. Played some Faust music today esp. the Box set from ReR and "Nosferatu".

Dipped into the folktales book i bought the other day last night in bed and a bit this morning when Tiggy my cat wanted her food. She laid on top of me nudging the book i was reading. It got too much, esp. when she clawed my face gently, so i wa forced to arise and feed her.
