This morning i visited Brighton Books where Stephen works to buy a book i have been eyeing for a few days now, Bob Copper (of the Copper Family) "Songs For Every Season" (Paladin paperhack 1975) for £4.

Popped over to Hove and Fine Records to pick up the rest of those Lp's i had Julian put aside. Average price of £4. They are two by Henry Hall and The BBC Dance Orchestra , the former is self-titled (World Record Club 1970) and the latter "it's Five Fifteen and Time For.." (World Record Club 1972), Juliette Greco "La Femme" (Philips 1967), Billy May "Cha Cha!" (Capitol 1960), and finally "Los Muchambos In Phase 4" (Decca Phase 4 1962). Steviecat was right about the Henry Hall Lp's - thy certainly made me smile. Juliette Greco has a lovely husky French chanson voice that is to die for. The surprise was the excellent Phase 4 LP - really groovy man - if that is retro enough for you. I also noticed, apart from the Greco LP, that Alisdair Willis has the same LP's when i checked his list. Greta tastes you see.

This morning received a nice large package from Fonal records of Finland containg one double LP,two singles and a CD. The double vinyl LP is by Es "Sateenkaarisuudelma" (Kraak3 Records 2005) - another beautiful package as well. two singles by Killa "Original" (Fonal FR 02) and "Frre Will Is Hard To Kill" (Fonal FR 08) from 1997 and 1998 respectively, and a Cd by Kemialliset Ystävät "Kellari Juniversumi" (Fonal FR 21) from 2002.

Also a package from the USA and the excellent Forced Exposure compnny a Cd by Avarus "Jatpilaisrotta" (Lal Lal Lal). Yes more Finnish underground music as outlined in a Wire article.

So in all a huge day of new sounds. Six Lp's ,two CD's and two singles.

I was on the train going to Worthing to do a survey and realised as we drew into Hove that i had forgotten some things for the job. So i alight at Hove (actually) and walk down to George street to pop into Fine Records. i wanted to order a Xenakis DVD on Mode records. Anyway whilst there spotted Stephen going though the vinyl. We both looked at various ones and he picked out some he recommended and eulogised about. I bought one straight away and asked Julian to put the other five aside for me. The one i bought was Florence Foster Jenkins "The Glory (???) of The Human Voice" (RCA Victrola) which when i got home had me in stitches laughing. Absolutely brilliant and worth £3.99. The Gounod Faust side is amazing.

Sunday night recorded a Channel 4 programme on sufi music and put it on a DVDR with the John Peel In Session stuff from BBC4 a few days back.

Sunday was an atrociuos day with wind and plenty of rain. Got soaked venturing out to the boot sale at the station. Picked up a Joe Turner Lp on Pablo "Midnight Special" for £1 but it was too wet to go elsewhere. Just read a book and listened to music most of the day
