New Year New Resolutions
Jan. 2nd, 2006 09:12 amI don't believe in doing resolutions much except for one and that is losing weight somewhat. Other than that 2006 will pretty much no different to 2005. As i write this i am listening to a Peggy Lee LP and marvelling at her voice as it was in the fifties.
A new Cd came through the post on New Year's Eve via the internet. Actually a 2003 release on Table of The Elements - Tony Conrad "Bryant Park Moratorium Rally 1969" a recording made by Tony Conrad on a march and speeches outside his apartment in New York against the Vietnam War,Mixed in with snatches of the TV on and a running TV commentary in the background it presents a fascinating aural dialogue on the event and is probably a quite important historical artefact.
I decided to make a list of my favourite releases from 2005 on my next update. It will be quite dificult to select just twenty from 118 bought albums officiallly released in 2005.
In total ,including those albums (CD and vinyl) from other years i picked up about 400 pieces of recorded muisc and such like. Quite alot for one year as most;y it's much less but the fact that i am buying vinyl again has increased this quantity quite a bit. My collection isn't that big (about 2400 in total) but it is full of quality stuff. I wonder how many Stephan Drennan or Alistdair Willi have in their collection. I would presume that vinyl dominate their collection whereas with me it has been mostly CD's except for the last year or so.
Yesterday (New Years Day)played quite a lot of old soul collections, such as the O'Jays,Temptationsn - a double Cd from the Norman Whitfield period,Rare Eartn,The Undisputed Truth,Rotary Connection, early Parliament,George Clinton and Rasputins Stash.
Had a good few days over the Xmas period with Ebay with some guy from Germany buying an Einsturzende Neubauten video "Mondo Berlin" for £26. In total £80 received via Ebay. It will help with Janaury which is always fiscally tight for me. More culling of stuff might be needed yet but these will be unrelated to music or books as you can almost sell anything on Ebay and probably will be old clothes and old games. Get rid of the clutter and in with the new.
