Picked up three DVD's for 50 pence each from a stall outside a pub down Gloucester Rd - Prince "Purple Rain", "Sliding Doors",and Bela Lugosi "The Corpse Vanishes". Plus two videos , also 50p each, which i put on the stall.

The cinema survey was pretty dire. few people wanted to do it despite being no more than 3 mins. long. So pretty pissed off 'bout it. Bought some beers to forget it!!

Well after listening to the Cosmic Karushi Monsters CD after a long period of not playing it has lead me to unearth other classic Jap pop and avant noise stuff for the Sunday playlist. Saki anyone?

1/ Pop Off Tuesday - Pop Ahoy! (Pickled Egg CD) - just weird pop
2/ Tenko - Dragon Blue (Sound Factory CD 1993)
3/ Ikue Mori with Robert Quine & Marc Ribot - Painted Desert (Avant CD 1995)
4/ Toho Sara - Eastern Most 1-7 (PSF CD)
5/ Ché Shizu - Nazareth (PSF CD 1993) - hypnotic trance acid folk.
6/ Melt Banana - Scratch or Stitch (Skin Graft CD) - fast, manic, noisy, great
7/ Omoide Matoba - Kinsei (Birdman CD) - skewed electronica and pop satori.
8/ Ruins -Vrresto (Skin Graft CD 1998)- powerful funk driven heavy metal.
9/ White Heaven - Out (PSF CD) - pyschodelic rock Jap style
10/ Kawabata Makoto - I'm In Your Inner Most (Ochre CD) - just weird electronica.Yummy
11/ Keiji Haino - So Black Is Myself (Alien 8 Recordings CD) - dark ambient.
12/ The Boredoms - Onanie Bomb Meets The Sexpistols (Very Friendly CD) - noisefest..

Just some of the delights from the land of the rising sun. Could also include acid-rockers Acid Mothers Temple and The Melting Paraiso UFO,Fushitsusha,Aube,Masonna,Ground Zero, and Nijiumu.

Resonace FM do a great Jap music show on Tuesdays, and repeated on Thursdays, which i highly recommend. The show is presented by Clive Bell,Alan Cummings and Biba Kopf on a fortnightly basisLink is http://www.onkyodo.co.uk. and for the show go to http://www.resonancefm.com. ,and for further readings and Mp3 downloads got to http://www.thewire.co.uk.

Popped over to the usual Sunday boot fair at the station.Haven't been there for quite awhile. Met Kulo there hunting out blues and doo-wop releases. I picked up a Lowell Fulson CD "My First Recordings" (Arhoolie 1997) - this is a collection of recordings he made between 1941 - 1954 and is in a much rawer style than his smoother later blues and soul recordings.

Picked up an LP by Harry Stoneham, the jazz guy, playing Hammond Organ, and Electric harpsichord, with fine backing from other people from 1970 in pristine condition for 50 pence!!! It was worth it for one track alone which is quite groovy and funky.
