More Exotica and Loungecore Stuff
Jun. 15th, 2006 06:04 pmExotica rule s- well on certain days - and this is one of them - when the sun comes out and you need slinky jazzy or bossa fueled sonic gems. First of is all those Easy beat volumes and then there is Partners In crime with their Mood Mosaic CD's which went to 12 volumes - no.12 is the jazzy sexy "Porn" one with a nice female butt on it. The soundtrack to "Vampyros Lesbos" is another groovy item. For real fun buy on Johnny Trunk's label "Dirty Fan Mail" - it's so funny and hilarious - he also released the soundtrack to "Deep Throat" - god bless him. Oh and whilst your are at it,metaphorically speaking, pick up the Tomorrows People soundtack. Superb. And if you can find it,on same label,"Flexisex" a collection of rare flex singles by porn stars like Mary Millington.
Ennio Morricone is always a good choice. Very influential composer. Also classic Studio Two or Phase 4 stuff is worth a look.Look out for "Dig It" which i found for £1 and is one great easy listening album but funky too.
Check out http://www.moviegrooves.com/ as they have lots of soundtrack and loungey exotica music, where i got Easy Beat vol.10 from. (featured in a WIRE Cinesonic section - which i sadly miss). They also have short mp3 sound clips to savour some of the stuff they have.Biggest selection of Morricone stuff i have seen.
Talking of soundtracks some great ones are -
"Dollars","Mulholland Drive","Last Tango In Paris","The Straight Story","The Hot Spot" ,"Get Carter" (a Roy Budd clasic),"Taxi Driver","Naked Lunch","Exorcist(the Heretic"" - but crap film,"Bullitt","Pyscho","North By Northwest",and "2001 Space Odyssey" just to name a few.
Weeded out 14 Cd;'s i don't need anymore and still pruning , mostly indie stuff, and disco flavoured stuff, which dates badly (such as Basement Jaxx).
Must mention a weird collection of Thai pop and funky grooves called Thai Beat A Go Go which currently stand at 3 volumes.Very exotica. Available from Borderline as pictured below.
