Art Books and Vinyl Fetishes
Sep. 8th, 2006 09:52 pmSome recent book purchases from Sandpiper and Oxfam, starting with "Sounds of The Inner Eye:John Cage,Mark Tobey and Morris Graves" bu Wulf Herzogennath and Andreas Kreul (Univ.Washington Press),and "Off Limits,Rutger University and The Avant-Garde 1957 - 1965" ed.by Joan Marter(Rutgers Univ.Press),and from Oxfam for £1.99 "Put About:A Critical Anthology on Independent Publishing" (Book Works 2004).All these i am keeping and not going stall bound.
Long obituary in the Guardian today. RIP Sir John Drummonnd, former BBC radio 3 controller and once planner of the BBC Proms,he was a real enthusiast for new music, and sometimes upsetting the stuff shirts of the establishment.
Today in London picked up three LPs and one single for £3.50; Joyce "Passarinho Urbano"(Continental 1977), Sweet Honey In The Rock "The Other Side"(Flying Fish 1985),and "Bird Spot,More British Wild Birds In Stereo" (BBC Records 1982),and the single by The Pretty Things "Eve Of Destruction"(Trax records 1989).
Also, picked up a few paperbacks from the basement of the Notting Hill Book and Comic Exchange for about 10p each, and cheap enough to go on the stall with a nice profit. This is what i need as my takings these last two weeks have been down from the previous two when i picked up my monies from the meeting on Tuesday.Srtill it is only down by £14 but i shall keep looking for the stuff i think might sell.
A bit of a Wire styled "Invisible Jukebox" interview with members of Yo La Tengo in the Guardian's film and art section today, and a review of their new album. I must admit to having a fond liking to them since i first saw them live at the Sussex University gig many years ago."Summer Sun" is still their most sublime recordings.
