Weekend Wanderings Again
Jul. 15th, 2007 08:42 pmLast night did a PRS down at an old haunt of mine, The Churchill Palace Hotel and their Casablanca club (the Jazz Rooms). A live band playing funk and R&B calling themselves "Omphff", a two hour set with just a 15 minute halfway break. I haven't been to this place not since the early nineties and late eighties when the "rediscovery" of jazz happened, and labels like Blue Note became "cool" again. Clark Tracey played there once and it was the original haunt of DJ's Russ Dewsbury and Baz Fe Jazz.
Did the NHS bus run survey in Crawley beforehand and visited the YMCA charity shop, picked up ten LP's for £2 and eight singles at 20p each, and some of them will be used on future DJ nights of mine. I won't bore with a list right now but suffice to say,the singles are soulful funky ones, except for Robert Wyatt "Im A Believer" (his version of the Monkes song).
Today I visited Lewes, walked around the town and did a mystery shop at Cafe Nero before returning to Brighton for another cafe Nero mystery shop.
It has been so warm today that it was nice to get into the shgade for awhile.
This morning a quick visit to the Brighton station boot fair and picked up four LP's and eight singles, very cheaply plus a petit round of Brie cheese from one French food stall. The LPs are -
Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66 - Greatest Hits (A&M)
The Best of Aretha Franklin (Atlantic)
Philips Audio Fair Sampler (Philips)
Duke Grant Plays Hammond Gold (Stereo Gold Award)
Total price £2
Okay,if you insist, the eight Lps from Crawley at 25p each are -
Shirley Bassey - Born To Sing The Blues (Contour)
Hot Hits 4 (MfP)
Silver Connection - Get Up And Boogie (MfP)
Odyssey - I Got The Melody (RCA)
Jubilee Stompers - Reggae Tight (Hallmark)
Kid Creole and The Coconuts - Tropical Gangster (Ze)
James Last - Non Stop Dancing 1970 (Polydor)
Earth Wind and Fire - The Collection (K Tel)
So now you know.
Watched the DVD of "A Scanner Farkly", a faithful adaption of the Philip K Dick novel, and finally watched "Une Femme Est Une Femme" again.
