Lording It At Lords
Aug. 19th, 2007 08:51 amYou could say i was lording it up at Lords Cricket ground where Hampshire were playing County Durham in a final. I was Team Leader of 15 interviewers and had to be the first to arrive and dispense ground passes amomgst them. They had been instructed to arrive outside The North Gate no later than 9.45 am. However some arrived late and hence would have ten pounds deducted from their pay. No excuses!
We achieved our total of 17 interviews and most of us (including myself) got twenty to get the extra bonus pay. We finished about 3.30 pm and i took a tube to Ladbroke Grove and whizzed round to Intoxica! first.
Bought a LP for a quid there - Various Artists "Movie Memories" (MFP) which has some nice tunes, including Burt Bacharach's "Look of Love".
Then walked up to Notting Hill Gate and bought three LPs , two from the basement for 50 pence each and onr for £3. -
Mica Paris "So Good" (4th and Broadway)
Woody Herman "Double Exposure" (Chess 2LP) - the best find of the day as it has some corking versions of "Light My Fire",Smokey's "Here I Am Baby", Herbie Mann's "Memphis Underground","MacArthur Park", Sly's "Sex Machine" and The Temptations "I Can't Get next To You" plus loads more grooves. Super cheap bargain of the day infact!!
and finally -
Francis Lai's "Hannibal Brooks" soundtrack (United Artists) which has two funky corkers on it.
Today going to Chichester to do another survey.
