It Makes You Wonder? !!
Sep. 4th, 2007 09:57 pmUnfortunately I had to go up to London to do a job at the Bloomsbury Thistle hotel and this was the first day of a three day tube strike.
Anyway i got up early to get to Victoria and decided that, rather than use a bus, I walked from Victoria to the hotel by going via Pall Mall and pass the Queen's home. It was an enjoyable early morning walk and surprisingly only took about 35 minutes.
However ISL my company i did the job for decided to post my work to Agi up in Muswell Hill, North London rather than to the hotel (and she was one of the girls who arrived very late when we did the Lords Cricket ground survey). Not a good idea. Yep, she failed to arrive at the venue and probably had no intention to, as she phoned me about 7.30 am to say that she was waiting for the courier to arrrive with the work around 8.30 am but said she could not get to the hotel because of the tube strike. So i suggested she get a bus to which i heard stone silence.
If i could get to Bloomsbury all the way from Brighton (even with a tube strike) i am certain Agi could have made the effort to get to the hotel.
So i had no work and hence phoned ISL to give them the lowdown. It would have been easier for them to special delivery the work to the hotel for me to pick up from reception or the concierge. So they sorted it out by sending the work by taxi all the way from Buntingford (which is not far from Stanstead Airport) - that will cost them alot and at a guess around forty quid or more.Infact, they are asking us not to use our cars and keeping expense costs down yet incur considerable expense themselves getting the work to me!. It makes you wonder?
Anyway i arrived at the hotel at about 9.30 am but had to wait two hours to get my work pack. Despite all the problems i completed a full quota and on target which means an extra bonus on the fee. Finished by 3.30 pm and felt very satisfied that at least I did my stint.
Soemtimes ISL do things back to front. But having said that, they are a good company to work for and you always get paid on time.
Also met Sue Gilbert who is progress chasing on behalf of EB (who is on holiday at the moment). Pleasant friendly person whom i had a very informative chat with.
Tomorrow, hopefully, a pleasant day at Hove Cricket ground and i am Team Leader again.
