Ashford,and Free Film Time
Nov. 13th, 2007 11:19 pmThis evening saw a film for free down at The Odeon (with GC) - the latest with Denzel Washington, "American Gangster". Phew - what a film and highly recommended by me!
Earlier today in Ashford doing that road users survey (which i was going to do on Monday). Whilst in the town went around the charity shops but on the whole it was all crap stuff - not a decent record to pick up.Just one double album which had a sheep with headphones on the cover which looked enticing for 70 pence. It looks like a religious record but if it has funky tracks on it then it might be worth it. LP called "Earful" (Word Records).
So after dropping the needle on the record this late evening i found nothing much on the first LP , just pap, but then once i dropped the needle to Side 3 and 4 i found two quite funky grooves - first off with a bit of wah wah giuitar and funky rhodes piano is a track called "Love Like An Ocean" by Face To Face and then a type of Earth Wind and Fire groove with brassy stabs,a wicked acid guitar middle section, and a good uptempo beat called "Got to Believe" by The Sweet Comfort Band. Good stuff ,and as the good Lord said "SEEK AND YEE SHALL FIND THE FUNKY BEAT!"
Yesterday in Birghton managed to get three interviews on a difficult New Build Housing survey in the new development back of the rail station, and hence just need two more to finish. Afterwards walked down London Road shopping area diving in and out of the chazzers and picked up a few good albums. Best bargain being Shirley Bassey's "Something" LP (United Artsists) for 30 pence. it has a great funky big band version of "Light My Fire" and a funky workout on "Spinning Wheel" (the Blood Sweat and Tears song).
From The Heart Foundation shop two albums for 25 pence each -
"Disco Dynamite" (Stereo Gold Award) - great version of "Oye Como Va"
The B52's "Cosmic Thing" (Reprise)
From the PDSA charity shop for a quid -
Harry Stoneham "It All Happens On Saturday" (Studio Two)
Well it's late and i need my beauty sleep.
