London Brillo Playlist
Jul. 15th, 2008 08:52 ammLat night was y second Brillo event at Filthy McNasty#s in Islington, and it turned out to be a very eclectic evening ranging from almost eighties disco to bollywood!
It was good to see some other people not met before such as Tom B.
Anyway as i started the set this is what i spun -
1/ Ultrafunk - Who Is He And What is He To You (Contempo 7") Funky Brit funk version of this well known tune
2/ J Gwangwa & African Explosion - African Sausage (Jamal 7")
3/ Bill Black's Combo - Turn On Your Love Lights (Hi 7")
Phil rather like this one, a crisp organ grinder of a tune.
4/ Bobby Bland - Poverty (Duke 7")
An old soul number i never tire off.
5/ Manu Dibango - Soul Makossa (Festival LP)
One of my all time favourites needed a spin.
6/ Le Feu Latin - Estrellas De Fania (Fania 7")
7/ Herbie Mann - Philly Dog (Atlantic LP)
A recent purchase , well same morning, for this Jazz Master comp, cover mouldy but vinyl was fine. A bargain at 25p
8/ Charlie Byrd - Southern Rider (CBS LP)
strange jazzy mariachi band groover which i started to play at the wrong speed
9/ Jimmy mcGriff - Step One (Solid State LP)
Another Hammond groove which got the thumbs up!
10/ Etta Jones - Nature Boy(Prestige LP) an ace version of this jazz standard
11/ Walter Bishop Jnr - Soul Village (Muse LP)
This is anther great jazzy groove that was recommended to me.
12/ Zbigniew Namyslowski Quintet - Appenzeller's Dance (Muza LP)
Hard funky Polish jazz groove
13/ The Last Crusade - The Hustle (Brown Dog 7")
14/ Slick - Space Bass (Fantasy 7")
So ended up with a classic disco tune!
and finally at the end sneaked this lovely jazzy number in -
15/ Manfred Mann and Mike Hug - The Michelin Theme (Michelin 7")
Well i promised Phil i would do a playlist as he now has an expanded wants list!

Oh and i left my canvas bag behind the decks (nothing in it) but it is a beige cream Rough Trade bag for life so if anybody finds it just put it aside for me or with the staff at McNasty's as i am up in London on 2 Aug anyway.
Apart from that, a great banging night of some fine and quite odd tunes at times. The usual Black Sheep ale was just as good as ever!
