Sunday Hampton Arms Playlist (November 9th)

Went with GC to help her out on a PRS Live visit to the Victoria pub Portslade yesterday afternoon and then she dropped me off at The Hampton to do my DJ set with DJ Flipside and Mark.

Mark had the first hour,then we split the rest of the evening equally until about 11.45pm. Mark had to leave early after his set anyway,and i started at 8pm. Rick,drinking buddy from the Evening Star, also turned up for twenty minutes and i played a track from the Merrel Fankhauser LP for him.Also imbibing at the Hampton was Ben,a fellow DJ from the old defunct  Bootfair Music Club nights at the Pricne Albert pub. They are now having a prog-rock fand psychedlia set every third Sunday of the month down at The Eastern pub and i have been invited along.

Groovy Music

Just finished typing in on the Maritz IKS system my music survey visit from Friday night. Eighty odd tracks and most unknown to the system as it was two Djs playing a mixture of mostly rare pysche ,beatfreak and garage-punk  stuff (mostly sixties but some 70's)  - well not to me - such as The Misunderstood,Wimple Witch and so on. There was the occasional known odd, mainstream record or minor hit such as "Venus" by Shocking Blue,  but mostly obscure cool music and some jazzy ,funky, bits plus a bit of latino style thrown in for good measure.  Thoroughly enjoyed it,unlike the Smugglers  (Saturday) with it's usual brand of boring disco pap ,where everything ends up sounding the same. This is why disco sucks these days - even in the height of Disco in the late seventies and early eigties there was much more variety and style than now - and beatmatching wasn't such an important thing ,plus Tom Moulton mixes ruled the scene! Those were the days.

This is why i like playing places like the Hampton , the Northern Lights and The Quadrant because i get to play music i love and have the variety of styles i enjoy. With the Eastern pub being the latest venue on my list  i can also play my old Prog tunes as well.  Time to bring out Colosseum,Egg, Yes and Van Der Graaf Generator. Groovy!
