I have been waiting for this concert for months and tonight it came - our third annual visit to the African Soul Rebels concert.
Me,GC and for the very first time,Tony, down from London for the weekend.

Concert started at 8pm and finisked just after 11pm. It was fantastic. Beforhand i did a small 45 minute stint at The Hampton Arms and gave Phil the Dinosaur L 12" he wanted.

I took some photos of the concert with my camera phone as well.

GC looking lovely and Tony seems to be eyeing her up.

First band was Extra Golden which have a blend of Kenyan Benga music with American Rock. Thier first album has just come out on Thrill Jockey.

And then the great Baaba Maal and his group came on. The sevcond time I have seen him live.He comes from Senegal and there is a potted biog of him from Wikipedia here -

Then finally, Oliver Mtukudzi and his band , Black Spirits, came on.They are the best selling band in Zimbabwe and their is a link about them here -

I took a  fancy to the lady driummer.

All in all, a great night of entertainment and we even had a few bops in the dancefloor - even Tony had one one with us!

Been sorting out some old CDr's i burned a year ago or more. Some stuff i have not played for ages too such as Anne Dudley's "Seriously Chilled", a compilation of music by Sunburned Hand Of The Man and  the Acid Mothers Temple,Larry Heard's "Genesis",Wax Doctor "Selected Works 94 - 96" plus a few others. Some will go to the Evening Star and some to the Northern Lights, and a few to the Hampton.

Infact i am currently listening to the Anne Dudley one , just played "Paanne" a piece by Gabriel Fauré and it starts with  a killer version of "Les Nuits" by Nightmares on Wax". The BBC Concert Orchestra is on hand with the symphonic touches to the chilled out electronica. creating  a cool classical ambient  chill CD.
