Last night was my main gig for awhile down at the Northern Lights. As usual, there was still problems with the decks and they had two cartridges but only one was viable, and thus i was using one turntable and the laptop in combination.

Brighton maintained their 100 % record in the Championship beating Peterborough 2 – 0 , so that was good news.

Another CD arrived this morning , “ Jazzy Vibes” , a compilation from Harmless Records. Excellent selection of grooves, which will be selected at my next Brighton Brillo night at the Northern Lights on September 16th . I look forward to that one.

Downloaded a cross section of music from You Tube as well, including one from The Pierces.

The return of Dr.Who in a few moments has to be good news!

Sorted out some reocrds for selling, and other records to take to the Hampton Arms for the weekend festivities. The new guys there have ordered a Stanton turntable kit with a mixer and headphones ready for the first night on Friday.

I shall focus on latin and salsa grooves with some Brazilain beats on the Friday and funk, soul and disco stuff on the  Satuirday but mix it up either way with the odd occassional classic tune thrown in as well.

Also, once a month at the ffirst saturday of the month we are doing a trio of DJ's and calling it THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER. Might even call it the BRAND NEW BRIGHTON BRILLO!!

I need to grab all Ally and Ville's friends to come along as well so that we can get the place buzzing. Forward and upward as they say!.

Saturday doing a mystery shop at Cup for  a lunch time visit.
jazzy_dave: (Default)
Well last night was the last Brillo and at the place it all started in Brighton. Since Dan was sacked, the new mangaer (Robert) has geared it towards comedy and open mike sessions. He does not seem interested in doing DJ night as DJ Fossie nor Abbo and Ally spin there.

I must admit the reception from staff was not as welcoming and nothing had been set up. I had to get them to find power cables and the lead from my mixer to their sound system. Still we did manage start at the alotted time of 8pm.

Also they no longer give a couple of free pints and don't pay for taxis anymore. This is where the Northern Lights are so generous with admittedly less cash in hand but free drinks all  night plus taxis paid for,and a free Sunday lunch!

One of them was that gorgious tune by Triste Janero "In The Garden" (Jazzman 7"), a classic "choon" from 1969 that got Rick the hat ALL quivery. He also dug the Wally Richardson funky jazz version of "Monday Monday" , the old mMamas and Papas tune.

Musings

Some work is coming back in again , a pubs survey for EMS,two Wickes visits from HPI, the car servicng job from SFP (Audi and VW cars) and now from EB a visit to M&S at Shoreham (she phoned me this morning) plus a  mobile phone job from Sally Baldwin received in the  last few minutes.

A possible large project from Protel next few months to do with the London Underground. So it seems it is not going to be too bad on the whole.

Meanwhile perusing the VG+ site amused me about a best of Brillo post especially as one muted the idea of Brighton. A summer one sounds good to me here on the coast and ,yep, they would be invited, I am thinking of June when, hopefully,it is nice and warm.
So  London lads, what do you  think?
