Last night i did my stint at The Hampton Arms pub with Phil and i noticed he didn't look very well. Anyway i come on just after 6.15pm and spun some vinyl til 7.30 pm. Meanwhile he went to the loo and was sick. Came back had a glass of water and started playing a couple of tunes and asked me to take over aain as he was going home.So i had the decks all the way til midnight, except for some geezers wanting to play some stuff for the 7" Inch Sunday section, and then Ollie (the landlord) caqme on to finish the set til 1am (bank holiday extension).

I aslo got two gigs for June from Ollie, respectively the 6th and the 20th,and they are both Saturdays. A good chance to mash up the vibes into a funky mix.

Once again the punters got grooving in their seats and one young lady got up to dance!
Ollie bunged me twenty quid for taking over from sick Phil!

Saturday night i did a fifteen minute spot just after midnight at The Latest Bar for the Stick It On team, and had excellent crowd reaction from the four i played -

Wally Richardson - Monday Monday
George Baker Selection - Little Green Bag
El Hombres - Let It Out
Womack and Womack - Teardrops

i now have a souvenir Jazzy D poster and a Choon poster from the event.. Afterwards i popped to the Northern Lights to see Ville and James (DJ Abo and DJ Jameszinho) spin some vinyl and they let me play five "choons" from my selection i took for Stick It On. One of them was that gorgious tune by Triste Janero "In The Garden" (Jazzman 7"), a classic "choon" from 1969 that got Rick the hat ALL quivery. He also dug the Wally Richardson funky jazz version of "Monday Monday" , the old mMamas and Papas tune.

So a totally BRILLO bank holiday weekend !!

I have decided to change the name of this journal since i no longer purchase The Wire magazine and now put my energies into the purchasing of vinyl in the funky jazz, soul, latin and salsa varieties mashed up with slices of dub, reggae, hip hop and Brazilain beats plus old school garage, prog rock  and psychedelia. The magazine of choice now is Shindig and the occasional Mojo, which reminds me, i must pick up the latest Shindig which is out now.

So Jottings is dead. Long live the new King.

Just had a nice chat with Raquel (living out in Saudi Arabia now) and she did not realise i DJ now. So i pointed her in the direction of this LJ blog and said i would a sixties / seventies mix CD for her.Throw in some Motown , some Stax and sixties pop stuff etc. Will do after my busy schedule in Croydon, Wimbledon and Catford this week on the TFL survey.
