Canterbury Trip With Tim
Jan. 14th, 2011 11:33 pmTuesday Tim and I went to Canterbury. He was supposed to go to the hospital for a quarterly check-up to do with his neck. Apparently though on the journey by train from Kent he had a call from the hospital to say it was cancelled. I think he bottled out as each time he goes he gets a terrible headache after his neck being stretched in all directions and he was going to have a brain scan as well.
In the end I think it was an excuse to go for a day out and have a few drinks , and lunch as he felt so fed up the previous day.
We first went into M&S to get a gift card for a late Xmas present for my brother and his wife . Tim said to them that he had posted a similar gift card before Xmas which Mike and Ros did not receive - but I think it was a case of lack of money and none was sent then. He also bought a new pair of corded jeans from them, a gift card present from Mike and Ros.
Afterwards we went to a Weatherspoons pub to have a few drinks and a meal. Tim had his usual Guinness and I had one of the guest beers.
We then walked down a side street as I wanted to show him the pub with the best jukebox in the city. The Bell and Crown is run by Nathan who has run the pub for the last five years. Apparently it was a biker’s pub (as Tim informed me and felt intimidated the last time he was there, which was over 5 years ago).
We had quite a few beers here as Tim discovered that the landlord is a Carter USM fan and also likes the music of Tom Waits. The beers are the same ones I had last time I visited.
Tim then told me about the most famous shop in town. It is actually the most unusual old building and has a very crooked door as you enter it and the floor slopes one way whilst you are inside it. It use to be a bookshop, the Kings College bookshop, but is now an Early Learning Centre.

I also took a picture of the famous cathedral and we had a few more beers at another pub.

It was getting quite late so we decided to get the train back to Teynham and had a few more beers at the Dover Castle.
