Dear Reader, I have read the first book from Saturdays’ World Book Night in two reading sessions - “The Reluctant Fundamentalist” by Mohsin Hamid , which I will now give to Georgina. It is a cracking read from start to finish, and short enough, given time, to read in one session.

Details of all the books at the worldbooknight.org website.

My next WBN book to read will be the daunting and heavy looking “Cloud Atlas” by David Mitchell” .

The Seamus Heaney book of poetry is one to dip into ,and apart from these, it will be philosophy. I have also initiated a group discussion on the WBN website about philosophy. It will be interesting if the group takes off or just be a damp squid.

For me it was Matchbox and Corgi toys which i kept in their boxes. However, what has happened to them is back in the mist of times long gone. I think they got left behind when my parents moved home. I wish i had them now as they would be worth quite a bit of money to collectors.

Without feeling too precipitous I am gushing with the fact that I have had one response to my Philosophy Group on the WBN website. This bodes well ,but like a Yorkshire farmer, I remain cautious of any ill wind that might blow my way.

Whilst on the subject of books, I am rattling through the Seamus Heaney poems and already half way. Once completed, I have the vexed assessment of whom I should pass this free book onto.

I fancy giving this copy of the poems to my long term friend still based in Rugby. I must admit, I feel somewhat queasy in sending on this to Gareth, as he is a lubricious customer when it comes to giving him presents. He is the kind of person who can take offence at gifts offered.

However , he does have a ludic nature that endures you to him. That is why I have known him since our grammar school days.

I took an excursion to Seaford for the evening to the Wellington pub. I had a delicious minted Lamb burger with chips washed down with a light straw coloured Okell’s Olde Skipper Ale (4.8% ABV).

Seaford has some very interesting and unique pubs , and this hamlet looks to be the best tonic for my dear friend Georgina , who is moving to the place in the near future.

Earlier in the day I popped over to see Julian at Fine Records in Hove. I needed some more packing material. Discovered that his internet was down in the shop, and that he could not do any card transaction nor use the internet. Consequently, he has been unable to follow my most recent escapades.

The people responsible for maintaining the system have been notified already, so I hope that the situation is resolved soon.

I was grateful not to miss out on the January monthly special from the Dark Star brewery, as they had the beer on tap today, and I had a pint and a half of this fulsome ale.

It is M&M Special Porter (6.5 % ABV) and in its full title is known as the Mark and Melissa S.P. This is because beer writer, Brewster and born vivant Melissa Cole joined head brewer Mark for a day to produce an eccentric porter. Seven different malts , four hop varieties ensure that the brew has a very full flavour , and that to add further complexity, the beer is aged over oak chippings. In summation, it is one fine bloody beer m’lad!
