Good news. I am now a Volunteer for the Kent Library service  as a "computer buddy" to beginners, particularly, elderly silver surfers. I start my new venture next Thursday.

Meanwhile , using the library to peruse various intellectual books on subjects that  tickle my grey matter.

These are my current loans from the library -

Gilles Deleuze - Cinema 1
                            - Cinmea 2
Jean Baudrillard - Simulacra and Simulation
Jacques Derrida - On Grammatology
Costas and Zizek - The Idea of Communism
Jean Baudrillard - From Marxism To Post-Modernism
Terry Eagleton - The Function of Criticism , From The Spectator To Post-Structuralism
T. Blanning - The Triumph of Music

Back in Brighton for the weekend to do a gig down at the Northern Lights.

Thursday had a trip to Chatham and Gillingham. Bought some charity finds ,and Wednesday went to Maidstone and Ashford and picked up another Ben Sherman shirt from a chazzer going cheap.

Longish bus journey today has me slightly pooped out. Time to nuzzle up in bed with a good book.

This week was the final part of the three part BBC documentary "All Watched Over By Mac\hines of Loving Grace" , aired Monday evening. Fascinating stuff that reminded me of that old 70's documentary series "Connections".

The title comes from a poem -

All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace (1968)
by Richard Brautigan

I'd like to think (and
the sooner the better!)
of a cybernetic meadow
where mammals and computers
live together in mutually
programming harmony
like pure water
touching clear sky.
I like to think
(right now, please!)
of a cybernetic forest
filled with pines and electronics
where deer stroll peacefully
past computers
as if they were flowers
with spinning blossoms.

I like to think
(it has to be!)
of a cybernetic ecology
where we are free of our labors
and joined back to nature,
returned to our mammal brothers and sisters,
and all watched over
by machines of loving grace.
