String Bass and Crumbs
Oct. 17th, 2011 07:20 pmWhilst still generally sunny I did feel the nip in the air when I picked up the daily newspaper. I listened to some string bass music this morning, from the early twenties through to the thirties of the previous century, particularly old jazz tunes by Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Henry Allen plus others, including western swing groups such as Roy Acuff and Bill Willis with his Texan Playboys.
I guess this is the kind of music that is right up R.Crumb's neck of the woods. I must dig out the Terry Zwigoff DVD of “Crumb” again, which is a portrait of the controversial comic book writer/artist and his traumatized family. It is a darkly comic ride through the subconscious mind of Crumb. As stream-of-consciousness images incessantly flow forth from the tip of his pen, biting social satire is revealed, often along with a disturbing and haunting vision of Crumb's own betes noires and inadequacies. From the narrative in the film we gain some insight into this complex and highly creative individual.

It looks like my blogs are getting noticed by revered tweeter and Facebooker, Alan Ivory , who showed this site to a friend of his this morning. It was noted that each time “spot” is mentioned here a donation of a pint should be given to cousin. Thus, I think I should install a “spot” counter, similar to the word count facility in the word processor part of Microsoft Office, so that I know how much it might cost.
I have gone upstairs, primarily to read a book, but one of the cats , Jasper, has taken up my reading space on the bed. I will not disturb her and try to edge to the other side to readn ,or i might decide to watch a DVD, such as “Crumb” or catch up with Stephen Fry's quite interesting “Planet Word”.
