Whilst still generally sunny I did feel the nip in the air when I picked up the daily newspaper. I listened to some string bass music this morning, from the early twenties through to the thirties of the previous century, particularly old jazz tunes by Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Henry Allen plus others, including western swing groups such as Roy Acuff and Bill Willis with his Texan Playboys.

I guess this is the kind of music that is right up R.Crumb's neck of the woods. I must dig out the Terry Zwigoff DVD of “Crumb” again, which is a portrait of the controversial comic book writer/artist and his traumatized family. It is a darkly comic ride through the subconscious mind of Crumb. As stream-of-consciousness images incessantly flow forth from the tip of his pen, biting social satire is revealed, often along with a disturbing and haunting vision of Crumb's own betes noires and inadequacies. From the narrative in the film we gain some insight into this complex and highly creative individual.
