Damn Microwaves and Book Hunting
Dec. 2nd, 2011 07:17 pmIf one thing happens, then usually a caacade of other things happen. First , cousin's cooker decides to have only one working ring. The oven and grill has not worked for a long time, but having one ring makes it awkward to cook. Thank goodness he has a George Foreman grill.
Now this morning the microwave decides to pack up. This means no more quickie meals, and certainly no quick defrosting of meat. The microwave is fifteen years old, mind you, but it has gone kaput at the worst time of the year. No fucking wonder he is so depressed.
On a different note, yesterday I took a trip to Headcorn and Tenterden via Maidstone. Picked up four books in Headcorn in a Sue Ryder charity shop.
Yann Martel – Life of Pi (Canongate)
Nick Hornby – Slam (Penguin)
Anton Chekhov – Five Plays (Oxford World Classics)
Arundhati Roy – The God Of Small Things (Flamingo)
In Tenderden, from the Red Cross chazzer, I picked up a book I have had on my wants list for a long while -
Logicomix: An Epic Search for Truth by Apostolos Doxiadis (Bloomsbury)

plus
Lorenzo Da Ponte – Memoirs (New York Review Book Classics)
Da Ponte was the foremost librettist for the operas of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
You can tell a well moneyed place by the quality of the chazzer. This chazzer even had Jimmy Choo shoes for sale!
