Yesterday I visited Canterbury and Maidstone , then ended up at Cineworld Rochester to watch the Guy Ritchie film “Sherlock Holmes, Game of Shadows". That meant I returned to Teynham after ten o'clock and so went straight to the Dover Castle as it was already eleven after walking up from the rail station. Tim had been there since half nine , and I expected Kev and Kate to be there since it was her birthday. Tim was quite disappointed because he didn't get his usual kiss from Kate.

I think we left the pub about 2.30 am after Phil kept insisting we had one for the road.

Whilst in Canterbury I had lunch at Fenwicks. A tasty delicious Gammon roast with all the trimmings for a mere five quid.

Picked up some more charity shop books as well, 3 for the price of two in Oxfam Maidstone, plus something for my cousin.

The books are -

Stephen Hawkings For Beginners (Ikon)
The Universe For Beginners (Ikon)
Introducing Einstein (Ikon)

The Arts Good Study Guide (O.U.)

and today in Faversham three O.U. course units from S103 Discovering Science. They could sell okay at the book trade site.

As for the film yesterday.,it was very entertaining, but I actually prefer the Benedict Cumberbach portrayal of Holmes.

A rather grey misty and wet day for my first visit to Deal. I went from Canterbury, and took the number 14 bus, a circuitous route that went through Littlebourne, Wingham, Ash and the lovely cinque port of Sandwich.

The weather slightly dampened the enjoyment of the trip around this part of Kent, but the splendour of Sandwich made up for it. A town full of historical buildings and narrow streets that reminded me much of the centre of Lewes.

I took a different route on the journey back. Boarded the number 15A bus towards Dover, passing Walmer Castle on the way, and then the main A2 back to Canterbury.

Although I did peruse a number of charity shops along the way , I ended up buying no books for two reasons : nothing inspired me and for the time being I have enough to get through.

This evening watched Have I Got News For You, and the Miranda Xmas special ,which was first shown last Christmas, followed by the best of QI and a BBC film “Tamara Drewe”..
